Working with PDFs and PowerPoint slide presentations

PDFs and Adobe Acrobat Reader

In order to view the module readings offline and other content supplied in PDFs, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader or other software capable of opening PDF files on your computer. If you do not have Acrobat Reader or other PDF viewer on your system you can download and install the reader from Adobe. Click here to download Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Depending on how your system is configured, your PDF files may open in your browser window or may open in a separate Adobe Acrobat Reader window.

Downloading, saving and printing PDFs

We have provided the module readings in two ways, as a complete module and as individual sections. The content covered is exactly the same.

Whichever version you choose, you can:

• Download/Save the file to your computer's hard drive so that you can read the material at a later date without being connected to the Internet
  or
  
• Read the file online while still connected to the Internet

To see more or less of a PDF page, you can adjust the zoom setting from the Adobe Acrobat Reader view menu by selecting the Zoom to... option

Downloading/Viewing PowerPoint® slide presentations

In order to view the slide presentations, you will need to have Microsoft PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer or other software capable of opening PPT files on your computer. In addition, most versions of the Internet Explorer browser will open a PowerPoint slide show. If you do not have PowerPoint or the viewer on your system and you are on a Windows computer, you can download and install the viewer from Microsoft. Click here to download PowerPoint® Viewer.

Mac users will need to have Microsoft PowerPoint or a third-party slide viewer.

To download the PowerPoint® slides, right click on the link for the slide presentation and select the "Save Link" or "Save Target" option.

To view as a slide presentation, open the saved file in PowerPoint®. Then, depending on the version of PowerPoint that you are using, select "View" and then "Slide Show, or "Slide Show" and then "From Beginning".

To view the slides in Internet Explorer:
Click on the link for the slide presentation. When the pop-up window appears asking "Do you want to open or save this file?" select the "Open" button.
