Meet our 2012 Ambassadors, The Centofanti Family:

Vince and Chris Centofanti had been supporters of the March of Dimes for years through their professional endeavors, well before their experience took a very personal turn in 2005. After one successful pregnancy with their son Nick, the Centafanti’s had no reason to expect anything would go wrong when Chris became pregnant again in 2004.  However, Chris developed HELLP Syndrome in her third trimester.  Chris’ high blood pressure and decreasing platelet levels were monitored closely and treated for two days under the watchful eye of specialists, who were also able to better prepare Nina for delivery by providing antenatal steroids to promote her lung development.  Nina, was born at 31 weeks at 2 lb, 15 oz, but through the medical interventions, she required minimal respiratory support and transitioned successfully to the outside world. She spent her time in the NICU growing and learning to feed, and went home healthy to happy parents and older brother Nick after a 5 week stay in the NICU. Today, Nina is a vibrant 6 year old who loves to dance, sing and be active with her family and friends.

The Centofanti’s are extremely grateful to all of the medical professionals who helped their children be born healthy and to the March of Dimes for their continued research and support to promote the birth of healthy babies everywhere.
