The March of Dimes is pleased to announce that Wes Lawrence, KeyBank President for Oregon and Southwest Washington, will serve as chairman for WalkAmerica in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The involvement of local leaders of the highest caliber across the nation is a key element in the continuing strength and appeal of WalkAmerica, the walk that saves babies by fighting premature birth, and the largest fundraising event for the March of Dimes.
Premature birth, affecting 1 in 10 babies born in Oregon and Southwest Washington today, is the leading cause of infant death and a major cause of lifelong disabilities. The rate of premature birth has increased 18 percent in Oregon since 1992. Through WalkAmerica, local volunteers will raise money for critical March of Dimes programs to save these tiny babies. WalkAmerica is set for Saturday, April 30 in 18 communities throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. |
