Mike Osborne named 2006 WalkAmerica Chairman
09-Jan-06
The March of Dimes is pleased to announce that Mike Osborne, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of First Tech Credit Union, will serve as chairman for WalkAmerica in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The involvement of local leaders of the highest caliber across the nation is a key element in the continuing strength and appeal of WalkAmerica. The event will raise more than $1 million for local March of Dimes programs to fight premature birth.

Premature birth, affecting 1 in 10 babies born in Oregon and Southwest Washington today, is the leading cause of infant death and a major cause of lifelong disabilities. The rate of premature birth has increased 18 percent in Oregon since 1992. Through WalkAmerica, local volunteers will raise money for critical March of Dimes programs to save these tiny babies. WalkAmerica is set for Saturday, April 29 in 17 communities throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

WalkAmerica is sponsored locally by First Tech Credit Union, KeyBank, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon, Farmers Insurance, Dex, KATU, The Buzz and The Fan radio, and KinderCare Learning Centers. National sponsors include Kmart, CIGNA, Famous Footwear, FedEx, and Farmers Insurance.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies. For more information visit marchofdimes.com/oregon.
