Ann McFadden of Blatter Brunner and March of Dimes volunteer visited the Womancare facility in Mt Oliver to visit the mothers that graduated from the program and the new moms brought their healthy, full-term newborns to celebrate.

Ann presented a check to Pam Dodge on behalf of the March of Dimes support for this program through the March of Dimes local grant funding.

“This program integrates group support, childbirth education and prenatal care with concentrated individual support.” said Pam Dodge, R.N.., MSN, Director of Ambulatory Services at Magee.“We also have provided the services of a community-Based doula for additional support during pregnancy and the early postpartum period.”

A doula, is a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth.  Each session they meet the women receive an educated message about childbirth such as stress reduction as well as midwifery care and prenatal monitoring.

The groups began in April and approximately 30 women have been seen.  For more information please contact the Pittsburgh office of the March of Dimes at 412.391.3193.
