2008 Chapter of the Year Awards The Pennsylvania Chapter was recently recognized with several 2008 Chapter of the Year Awards in the areas of Revenue Development (Large Chapter), Public Affairs (Large Chapter) and Mission Triangle (Large Chapter).
2008 Chapter of the Year Award --Revenue Development A chapter must have achieved a minimum 8% March of Dimes net year-over-year increase, their budgeted margin, 107% or more profitability, and have expended their full grants budget and met total unrestricted budget for MOD net.
Pennsylvania – Large Chapter Winner The Pennsylvania Chapter led the way in the large chapter category primarily with March for Babies. Pennsylvania had a $100,000 year-over-year increase and had the top Kmart team in the country with a $116,000 increase over 2007.
2008 Chapter of the Year Award –Public Affairs A chapter must lead two public affairs initiatives (legislation enacted, regulation approved, and/or funding allocated) to completion for the year in which the award is being given.
Pennsylvania –– Large Chapter Winner (tie with Arizona) The Pennsylvania Chapter secured two major wins in 2008 by enacting legislation that authorizes the expansion of the state newborn screening panel to the full 29 “core” disorders recommended by the American College of Medical Genetics and endorsed by March of Dimes; and by working strategically with the Governor, key Cabinet officials, and legislative leadership to have $1 million allocated for newborn screening follow-up and treatment. In addition, the Pennsylvania Chapter procured $100,000 in legislative grant money for NICU Family Support. The Chapter is to be commended for leveraging grassroots/tops, holding a legislative event, and collaborating with other organizations.
2008 Chapter of the Year Award -- Mission Triangle A chapter must demonstrate outstanding achievement in Communications, Diversity, Fund Raising, Program, Public Affairs and Volunteer Development and must show integration of mission, communications and fund raising.
Pennsylvania – Large Chapter Winner Pennsylvania achieved profitability for the first time in 2008, ending the year at 108.5. A solid March for Babies campaign led the way, with the chapter exceeding its March for Babies budget by over $100,000. The chapter exemplified integration, as all functional areas worked together to implement numerous initiatives including: newborn screening, represented by two public affairs wins (expansion and funding), and well-publicized through media events and days at the Capitol; Day of Gratitude, with mission families visiting NICUs throughout the state, resulting in more than $18,750 in new revenue, increased use of Nursing Modules, and visibility through multiple media outlets; continued development of the chapter’s NICU Family Support program, including procurement of State funding, expansion of the partnership with the host hospital, and piloting of new modules; and increased success with fundraising with teams such as Kmart and family teams.
