Every year in the United States, nearly half a million babies are born too soon, 16,250 of them right here in Pennsylvania. With your help, we work to improve the health of babies and support families if something does go wrong.
Pennsylvania lowered its preterm birth rate, giving more babies a healthy start in life and contributing to the national five-year improving trend. Check out the full report.

March of Dimes Celebrates 75 Years
Seventy-five years ago, in January 1938, the March of Dimes was founded to fight polio by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, himself a polio sufferer. March of Dimes funded the development of the Salk vaccine and the Sabin vaccine. Nearly all babies born today still receive this lifesaving injection.
For the March of Dimes, the polio vaccine was only the beginning. In the decades to follow, we helped to stamp out rubella, pushed for regionalized newborn intensive care, funded the development of surfactant therapy and other lifesaving treatments, promoted folic acid to prevent neural tube defects and brought newborn screening to every baby.
From schoolchildren to scientists, presidents to parents, and celebrities to citizens, everyone has made a difference. Your support helps us to continue cutting-edge research to determine the cause of birth defects and premature birth.
By raising funds, donating your talents or joining us in a local event, you make a positive difference in the health of babies and families in neighborhoods like yours. Learn how you can help and get involved today.
Each year the March of Dimes selects families whose lives were impacted by our research, programs or educational campaigns to give a face to our mission or who have a passion to help all families have stronger, healthier babies. These local families share their story in their community to encourage families and companies to join them in make sure all babies get a healthy start in life.
