Local Physician Recognized for His Efforts on Behalf of the March of Dimes
Philadelphia, PA, October 21, 2011 The March of Dimes has presented Jay Greenspan MD, MBA, with the Elaine Whitelaw Volunteer Service Award for his significant contributions to the community. Dr. Greenspan is The Robert L Brent Professor and Chairman, Department of Pediatrics, Thomas Jefferson University, and Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children.
The award was presented during the organization’s annual Volunteer Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. Greenspan is being recognized as being an invaluable supporter of the March of Dimes and their mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. The March of Dimes carries out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy.
In 1990, the March of Dimes created the Elaine Whitelaw Annual Volunteer Service Award to honor exemplary volunteer service. Greenspan has been committed to the mission of the March of Dimes for twenty years and has shown extraordinary dedication to the campaign. Greenspan’s contributions and loyalty to the organization have raised public awareness of the prematurity crisis, particularly in Philadelphia, and he has actively encouraged other stakeholders to get involved as well.
“Jay Greenspan is highly regarded in the community and elevates the reputation of the March of Dimes every time he advocates on our behalf,” says James Dennis, state director of the March of Dimes Pennsylvania Chapter. “He is passionate. At every opportunity, he vocalizes our mission, advocates for the needs of the organization and embraces fundraising to sustain our growth. He is the perfect example of how true leadership and volunteerism can culminate into a successful and meaningful difference for babies year after year.”
