• Maternal age is a risk factor for very low birthweight, with higher rates found among the youngest and oldest mothers. 
• In Charlotte during 2008-2010 (average), very low birthweight rates were highest for women ages 40 and older (2.3%) and under age 20 (1.9%) , compared to 1.8% for all live births.

  • Very low birthweight: reduce to no more than 1.4% of live births.
