Is it possible to have too much folic acid?

There is no known toxic level for folic acid. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that women consume no more than 1,000 micrograms (1 milligram) of folic acid per day. If you eat a diet rich in folate and take a multivitamin with 400 micrograms of folic acid before pregnancy (600 micrograms during pregnancy), you will still fall well within the recommended range.
