CBS Early Show Highlights Importance of Folic Acid

MAY 7, 2007 -- This morning on the “CBS Early Show,” Dr. Emily Senay's daily health segment featured the importance of the B vitamin folic acid in preventing serious birth defects.  Dr. Senay told viewers that the March of Dimes recommends that all women of childbearing age should consume 400 micrograms of folic acid every day, prior to becoming pregnant, in order to prevent birth defects of the brain and spine known as neural tube defects (NTDs).  The most common NTD is spina bifida. The March of Dimes was cited throughout the segment on the subject.
