Future Business Leaders of America - Phi Beta Lambda

The Future Business Leaders of America/Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) is a national association of intermediate, high school, vocational, junior college, college and university students interested in business careers. The purpose of FBLA-PBL, in addition to promoting the development of vocational competencies for business and office careers, is to promote a sense of civic and personal responsibility.

Intermediate and secondary business students are members of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Division. Post-secondary and college level business students are members of the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Division. Former FBLA-PBL members comprise the Professional Division. In addition, a new Middle Level Division for middle school students has recently been established.

There are over 210,000 members of FBLA-PBL in more than 7,000 chartered chapters throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Europe. FBLA-PBL is divided into five regions, but is governed primarily at the state level. Each state has a state chairman, as well as FBLA and PBL advisors. All three of these individuals are employed by the State Department of Education to act as the statewide administrators for the program.

Over the last 30 years, the March of Dimes has had a successful partnership with FBLA-PBL. In this time, FBLA-PBL has raised over $12 million for the March of Dimes and reached hundreds of thousands of young people with our health and mission messages. In the 1997-1998 school year alone, FBLA-PBL raised $500,000 for THE foundation. In summer 1998, the March of Dimes and FBLA-PBL launched a new collaborative initiative: Mission LIFT (Leading Into the Future Together).

"Mission LIFT" is a new pilot program that focuses on the development of leadership skills in FBLA-PBL members and increased involvement in WalkAmerica. The general idea is that the members will learn important skills through their participation in WalkAmerica.

In 2000, FBLA-PBL again raised a remarkable $500,000 for the March of Dimes. Five percent of that money, or roughly $25,000, was given back to FBLA-PBL to be used in the form of grants for leadership projects. This money helps to enhance the FBLA-PBL/March of Dimes experience and strengthens efforts in making lasting chapters.

In addition, the March of Dimes invites FBLA-PBL into our own Team Youth leadership programs such as Chain Reaction and Collegiate Council to help foster mutually rewarding relationships. Team up with your local March of Dimes chapter and take advantage of this exciting partnership today!
