Ed Hanway to Join National Board of Advisors of March of Dimes

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., JULY 27, 2001 – H. Edward Hanway, chairman and chief executive officer of CIGNA Corporation based in Philadelphia, will join the national Board of Advisors of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation in September 2001, it was announced today.
March of Dimes trustees and advisors, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the Foundation and helping it realize its mission to prevent birth defects and infant mortality.
Previously, Mr. Hanway was president of CIGNA HealthCare, the national health care sponsor of the March of Dimes WalkAmerica for the past seven years. Since becoming a WalkAmerica national sponsor, CIGNA HealthCare and its employees have contributed $10 million to improving the health of mothers and babies.
Mr. Hanway’s career with CIGNA has spanned 22 years, including positions of president and chief operating officer and president of CIGNA International. He received his B.A. from Loyola College of Baltimore and his M.B.A. from Widener University in Chester, PA. Mr. Hanway is active in corporate and civic affairs, serving on the boards of the Coalition for Affordable Quality Healthcare and Loyola College of Baltimore, among others. Mr. Hanway and his wife Ellen reside in Newtown Square, PA.
The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality.
