  James Hance Elected to National Board of Advisors of March of Dimes

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., JULY 27, 2001 – James H. Hance, Jr., vice chairman and chief financial officer for Bank of America Corporation based in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been elected to the national Board of Advisors of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, it was announced today.

March of Dimes trustees and advisors, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the Foundation and helping it realize its mission to prevent birth defects and infant mortality.

Mr. Hance is a longtime volunteer leader for the March of Dimes North Carolina chapter. He has served as chairman of the chapter’s Board of Trustees and as chairman of the local March of Dimes WalkAmerica, the Foundation’s most important fundraising event. Under his leadership, the Bank of America team raised more than $1.7 million for WalkAmerica in 2000.

Mr. Hance has been a director of Bank of America Corp. since 1999. Previously, he was chief financial officer and vice chairman of NationsBank, the predecessor of Bank of America. A native of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mr. Hance received his B.A. in economics from Westminster College in Missouri and his M.B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, and is a certified public accountant. He is active in corporate and civic affairs, serving as a trustee of the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and Washington University, among others.  Mr. Hance and his wife Beverly Vaughan Smith have four children and reside in Charlotte.
