NEW YORK - February 14, 2000 - Kathy Ireland, wife and mother, fashion and lifestyle designer, health and wellness advocate instructor of five best-selling videos, and Sunday school teacher, will serve as National Honorary Chairperson of the March of Dimes WalkAmerica 2000. This will be Ms. Ireland’s third year as national chairperson.

As National Honorary Chair, Ms. Ireland will make appearances in Detroit, Denver, and Tampa to urge individuals and families to join WalkAmerica. Ms. Ireland will lead the No. 1 National WalkAmerica Team, Kmart, in Atlanta on WalkAmerica weekend, which takes place on April 29 and 30 in most cities. To date, WalkAmerica has raised more than $1 billion toward the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality.

"As a working mother with two young children, I appreciate the research advances made by the March of Dimes," Ms. Ireland said, "and it’s a privilege for me to serve as Chairperson for WalkAmerica. I participate for my children and for every baby -- because a healthy baby is the greatest gift of all."

In addition to her commitment to the March of Dimes and parenting, Ms. Ireland balances an active business and performing career. She has appeared in a number of national magazines, including three Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions, and her television credits include Suddenly Susan, Melrose Place, The Larry Sanders Show, Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, Boy Meets World and the Donny and Marie Show.

Ms. Ireland is also a certified fitness instructor with several exercise videos to her credit, and recently launched the Kathy Ireland Mix and Match Signature Swimwear and ACTIVE Bodywear lines with Kmart. In 1999, she was honored by The National Association of Women’s Business Owners.

Her clothes collections are regularly featured, nationally and internationally, in the same magazines that ask her grace their covers, including: Cosmopolitan, Glamour, McCalls, People, Redbook, Shape and Fit Pregnancy.
