MOMmobile

The March of Dimes MOMmobile is a mobile prenatal care clinic designed to operate like a traditional health care provider’s office, with private exam areas, waiting area, nurse’s station, education area, and a medical laboratory. Medical equipment includes fetal monitors, diagnostic laboratory equipment, and refrigerated medical storage.

Manned by a bilingual staff including a certified nurse midwife, registered nurse, lab technician, and clerical personnel, health care is provided to uninsured women in South Dade including pregnancy testing, prenatal care/post partum care, health education, lab work, WIC eligibility, Healthy Start Screenings, and referrals as needed.

The goal of the MOMmobile is to increase access to prenatal and postnatal health care to ensure healthy birth outcomes. The MOMmobile operates on a regular schedule at locations of South Miami-Dade County including Homestead and Perrine where access to health care is limited.

The MOMmobile concept was born in 1992 after Hurricane Andrew devastated South Miami resulting in limited access to prenatal care. Since then, the MOMmobile has provided services to thousands of clients providing them with free, personal, and private prenatal care.
