Rita Patnode wins Nurse of The Year Award

Brigham & Women’s Hospital Nurse Wins in Education Category

Natick, MA, December 03, 2012 —

From Brigham & Women's Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Rita has had a long – 32 year -career in nursing. Among many successes she has developed, reviewed, and revised all NICU Policies, Procedures, Guidelines, Standards, Drug Administration Guidelines. She also reviews all Newborn Rapid Response cases and is a Regional Trainer for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program.

Most recently Rita has given presentations in Anaheim, California and in Boston on barcoding human milk. She has also conducted significant work with the Indian Health Services, which has taught her about a different culture and how the Native Americans incorporate their traditional beliefs with western medicine. She is proud to have given Indian Health Service nurses a voice by teaching them the principles of newborn resuscitation and providing hands on practice.

Rita is a role model and nurse leader that provides nursing care and support to all clinical staff, infants and their families.  She values her own practice and her colleagues practice.
