The March of Dimes Texas Chapter funds programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. This includes providing financial support to research and education that will help moms before and during their pregnancies. It also includes working with local medical groups and organizations to improve prenatal care and newborn screening.

Grants and awards are given to projects that address the urgent needs of moms and babies. Grants are generally awarded for one to three years and range from $5,000 to $25,000.

The Texas Chapter uses gifts wisely. The chapter community grants program is designed to invest in priority projects that further the March of Dimes mission, support national and state objectives, and further our strategic goal of reducing disparities in birth outcomes. We award grants based on a number of criteria, including the group or organization’s ability to accomplish its goals, as well as the potential impact a project will have in helping us prevent premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. Proposals will be accepted from organizations focusing on one of the following priorities:

• Interventions that address health disparities in African-American and Hispanic populations in Texas that will decrease prematurity, infant mortality and birth defects.
• Providing or enhancing premature birth risk reduction education and/or services. Risk reduction projects include, but are not limited to:
  • Implementing community programs that aim to promote equity in birth outcomes. This may include March of Dimes programs like Stork’s Nest®, Project Alpha and Becoming a Mom/Comenzando bien®.
  • Enhancing services for pregnant women with chronic diseases that increase the risk of premature birth such as diabetes and hypothyroidism.
  • Enhancing care through a group prenatal care model (e.g. CenteringPregnancy®).
  • Initiating a quality improvement program related to premature birth prevention with the goal of catalyzing systems change.

In order to be eligible to receive a March of Dimes chapter grant, an organization must be an incorporated not-for-profit 501(c)(3) or for profit organization or government agency. The March of Dimes does not award grants to individuals. Applicants must disclose any conflict of interest due to representation by their organization on the chapter's Program Services Committee or the Chapter or Division Board of Directors.

March of Dimes Texas Chapter Community Grants Program is currently open for funding.

RFP Submission Requirements

To apply, applicants should first obtain the full application, guidelines and required forms. Proposals must address at least one of the funding priorities mentioned. Please be advised that proposals are non-binding. Electronic submission responses need to be received no later than 5:00PM EST, October 19, 2012. Submissions must be in Word (.doc) or PDF (.pdf) format.

Proposals will be reviewed by a multi-disciplinary Program Services Committee. Applicants will be notified of their proposal's status in January 2013. The grant period is from February 1, 2013. – January 31, 2014.
