Newborn Screening: What Caregivers Need to Know, Online Course

The Region 4 Genetics Collaborative has produced this course designed for prenatal care providers, childbirth educators, and other health care professionals who work with expectant parents. To view the course, go to the collaborative's Web site.

The purpose of the course is to enable caregivers to raise expectant parents' awareness of newborn screening. Although state-mandated newborn screening programs have existed for over four decades, many parents still are unaware of newborn screening. Caregivers have an essential role in helping parents become informed and prepared for their baby's newborn screening.

The Region 4 Genetics Collaborative serves seven states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
