One gene closer

About 2 to 3 percent of babies are born with intellectual disabilities. A March of Dimes grantee shows how one altered gene may be a cause. The study is a very early step that may eventually offer a basis for treatment.

Vitamin D vs. preterm birth

Vitamin D deficiency may be one of the reasons why African-American women are more likely to give birth early. If so, a vitamin D regimen may help suppress inflammation from common infections and help women carry to term.

Research breakthroughs

From the PKU test to surfactant and nitric oxide therapies, March of Dimes funded research is saving the lives of thousands of babies.
