March of Dimes Honors Boyd with Real Estate Award
(Columbia, SC, October 30, 2009) —The March of Dimes South Carolina Chapter is pleased to announce that William C. “Bill” Boyd of Columbia will receive the organization’s 2009 Real Estate Award, which highlights the outstanding contributions of an individual in the real estate industry. Boyd, a shareholder of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., is widely respected by his peers in the South Carolina business community. He has managed numerous mergers and acquisitions and large-scale industrial projects, including the assembly and acquisition of property, environmental and other governmental permitting, and financing.
The Real Estate Award Breakfast will be held on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 at 7 am at Embassy Suites in Columbia. This year’s event is chaired by Todd Avant of NAI Avant and Lee Mashburn of Mashburn Construction, both previous honorees.
“It is an honor to present this award to Bill Boyd to recognize his numerous contributions to the Midlands community,” said (LEE OR TODD??). “I can’t think of anyone more deserving.” Boyd currently chairs the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Waterfront Steering Team, and serves on the executive committee of the Midlands Business Leadership Group and the board of directors of the Midlands Housing Alliance. This year, he was honored by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly as a recipient of the inaugural 2009 “Leadership in Law” award. Boyd was named Columbia Real Estate Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America, where he has been recognized for more than a decade in the practice areas of Antitrust; Corporate; Mergers & Acquisitions; Real Estate. In 2008, he was selected as the Columbia Chamber of Commerce’s Ambassador of the Year. Chambers USA named Boyd as one of South Carolina’s leading lawyers in mergers and acquisitions. “I am truly honored to be the recipient of this year's March of Dimes Real Estate Award, Boyd said. “In joining the others awarded this distinction in past years, it is a humbling experience. However, it takes all of us - the community at large - to continue working together to make the Midlands a better place to live.” Previous honorees of the March of Dimes Real Estate Award are: 1999: Baker & Baker Real Estate 2000: Century 21 Bob Capes Realty, Inc. 2001: Alan Kahn, Kahn Development Comp. 2002: Robert T. Funds raised at the March of Dimes Real Estate Award Breakfast will fund research into the causes and preventions or premature birth. Premature birth touches half a million babies and their families every year including 173 babies in South Carolina in an average week. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have life-long disabilities.
Tickets for the event are $150 per person, or $1500 for a corporate table of eight. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are also available. Please contact the March of Dimes at 803-252-5200 or ewilson@marchofdimes.com for more information. The March of Dimes funds research to find the causes of and ways to prevent premature birth—an infant health crisis that affects one in six babies in South Carolina and the numbers continue to rise. In half of all cases there is no known cause. Premature babies struggle to survive and may face life-long health consequences.
In 2009 the South Carolina March of Dimes has invested $1.5 million in program services, including research grants and local community services. Through these grants, the March of Dimes is seeking ways to prevent birth defects and infant death, reduce South Carolina’s increasing premature birth rate, increase access to prenatal care and educate men and women about having healthy babies.
