March Of Dimes and Greenville Hospital System Children’s Hospital Report On NICU Progress
Program offers comfort to families with babies in newborn intensive care
The South Carolina Chapter of the March of Dimes was selected as one of three pilot sites in the country for the NICU Project. The purpose of the project is to develop programs that provide support, comfort and information to families of critically ill newborns.
As a part of the project, videos and books were created to guide parents and families through the NICU experience and help them cope with the arrival of a sick or premature child. Filmed and developed at Greenville Hospital System, the products will be distributed to other hospitals in South Carolina and around the country when the program is rolled out to hospitals nationwide.
The project was developed with close input from parents who have experienced the Greenville Hospital System Children’s Hospital NICU first-hand.
“We are very pleased with the progress of the NICU Project and are so proud of the hard work being done by our graduate parents and NICU staff to make this program a reality. We already can tell that this project will have a big impact on families served by our hospital, “ said Frank Pinckney, president and CEO, Greenville Hospital System.
“The parents involved in this pilot project have done an incredible job developing these new materials. They have put their hearts and thoughts into this project and the results are very touching. Through the NICU Project, we simply hope to provide anything that can make this time a little easier on the parents,” said Paula B. Howell, State Director for the South Carolina March of Dimes. |
