James Island High Lights up their school in Pink & Blue!

James Island Charter High School in Charleston, South Carolina is going all out, dressing, and decorating their school, in Pink & Blue and marking each day of the week, Nov. 12 – 16, with activities in recognition of Prematurity Awareness Month.

The High School FBLA club organized this week of fun and awareness.  For some students, this is a first experience with community service.  Activities include:

  • Twin Day! – you and a friend dress like twins or triplets!
  • Paint the School Pink & Blue Day!
  • Hat Day! – Wear your zaniest hat and sport it proudly with a $1 March of Dimes sticker!
  • Awareness Ribbon Day! – Donate your change to help the March of Dimes!
  • Blue Jeans for Babies! - Faculty and Staff – rock out your best jeans! donate $1 all in the name of saving babies!

The March of Dimes Youth program educates about sick babies, birth defects and the importance of good health. It emphasizes good student health and good habits that lead to healthy adulthood. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Healthy adults and healthy babies have healthy futures!

This year the March of Dimes observes the sixth annual Prematurity Awareness Day, on November 13th, and November is Prematurity Awareness Month.

About the Light Up Your School in Pink & Blue Contest
The purpose of the contest is to encourage students to light up (or decorate) their schools in pink and blue during the month of November, raising awareness to the problem of prematurity.  The students or school that submits the winning photo or video of a school lit or decorated in pink & blue wins $1,000.

Call the SC March of Dimes to receive FREE posters while supplies last!  The contest ends December 31, 2007.
