Folic Acid Campaign in South Carolina

Since 1998, the March of Dimes has been leading the national public awareness and education campaign about folic acid and its role in preventing serious birth defects of the spinal cord. In South Carolina, the campaign has been credited with a 60-percent reduction in the rate of neural tube defects.

The South Carolina Neural Tube Defect Prevention Initiative
The South Carolina March of Dimes has invested more than $1.7 million dollars in this partnership,  which has helped reduce the rate of neural tube defects (serious birth defects of the brain and spinal cord) by 60 percent, below the national average.
