Our grants and awards go to programs that address unmet medical needs for South Dakota's moms and babies. Our funds typically go toward programs that focus on education and prevention and increasing access to prenatal care, with an emphasis on improving birth outcomes.
Some of the past recipients of grants and awards have been the Mentor Moms Program – Lake Area Child Protection Team, Watertown; Folic Acid Education - Sioux Falls School District; Sacred Grandmother/Baby – Golden Age Center, Ft Thompson; Prenatal/Newborn Care – Flandreau Medical Center/Avera Health, Flandreau; Smoking Cessation – Avera St Lukes, Aberdeen; For the Health of It – Avera Sacred Heart, Yankton; Preemie Car Seats – SD Dept of Social Services, serving all of SD; Resource Guide – Center for Disabilities, serving Aberdeen, Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls; Centering Pregnancy Initiative – Sanford Women’s Clinic, serving all of SD; The Coming of the Blessing and Centering Pregnancy Initiatives – Pine Ride Indian Reservation; Centering Pregnancy – Women’s Wellness Center, Huron
We award grants based on a number of criteria, including the group or organization’s ability to accomplish its goals.
We also award grants based on how effective the program may be in meeting the unmet needs of moms-to-be, such as increasing access to maternal and pediatric care.
