Women & Infant Health Awareness Conference

The March of Dimes estimates that in 2006, one in four infants in Texas was born to a mother who received inadequate prenatal care. In an average week: 7,685 babies are born in Texas; 1,050 are born preterm; 649 babies are born low birth weight; and 49 babies die before reaching their first birthday.
This conference is designed to educate health care professionals about methods to ensure that pregnant women and infants receive the most innovative and effective care possible. Knowledgeable speakers will cover a broad range of topics including: Centering Pregnancy, Preconception Health, Diabetes in Pregnancy, Perinatal and Neonatal Ethics, Asthma Management in Children & Immunizations. Attendees will be able to use this information to ensure that they are efficiently caring for their patients.
Target Audience This program is designed for family and general practice physicians, obstetricians, gynecologists, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and other interested health care professionals.
Educational Method Lectures will be accompanied by PowerPoint presentations, open discussions, case studies and question/answer periods in a setting conducive to audience participation.
Accreditation Physicians — The Texas A&M Health Science Center Coastal Bend Health Education Center designates this educational activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The presentation ‘Perinatal and Neonatal Ethics’ has been designated by the Texas A&M Health Science Center Coastal Bend Health Education Center for 1 (one) hour of education in medical ethics and/or professional responsibility.
Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.
Nurses — Corpus Christi Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
This activity provides up to 5.75 contact hours. Nurses must complete the evaluation tool and attend the entire day to receive a certificate of successful completion.
