Chris Durovich is president and chief executive officer of Children’s Medical Center. Since assuming his present role in 2003, Chris has guided Children’s through some of the most dramatic growth and progress in its history. The Children’s campus has more than doubled in size and the patient volume has increased by more than 25 percent. He has led the development of more than $500 million of new construction including a full-service hospital in Plano, Texas and enhancements at the downtown campus including a 100 bed inpatient and intensive care tower, a 150,000 square foot ambulatory care pavilion, a neonatal intensive care unit and expanded diagnostics. To improve programs and services offered, he recruited in conjunction with University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center over 300 specialists and subspecialty physicians to Children’s. He also developed a Quality Institute and completed fund-raising campaigns in excess of $175 million.
A hallmark of Chris’ tenure has been an unwavering emphasis on creating a culture of excellence. Under his leadership, Children’s has achieved accreditation as the first pediatric hospital in Texas designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center, received Magnet Program status for excellence in nursing and has become the first hospital in the United States to become certified for multiple disease management programs by The Joint Commission. Those and other achievements resulted in the recognition of Children’s as one of the Top 10 Pediatric Hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report in 2009. Children’s also was named to the list of 100 Most Wired Hospitals for the sixth time in 2009. Both The Dallas Morning News and Dallas Business Journal also recognized Children’s as a best place to work in Dallas in 2009.
Today, in addition to his role at Children’s, Chris participates on national, regional and local boards for pediatric healthcare and broader healthcare issues including his roles as chairman of the March of Dimes 2010 March for Babies and board member of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions. He also considers it an honor to serve his local community in his roles on the board and executive committee of the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce, the executive board of the Circle Ten Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and the board of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. He also is a past chair of the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council. |
