Issues and Priorities
March of Dimes public affairs efforts focus on national and state policies and programs that relate to our mission - improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. We are also involved in issues that affect non-profit organizations.

Advocacy Network
The Advocacy Network is made up of volunteers and staff who promote the March of Dimes mission agenda by contacting the governor and state legislators in response to Chapter action alerts. If you are interested in being part of the advocacy network, please email advocatetexas@marchofdimes.com

Public Policy Research
One of the responsibilities of the March of Dimes Office of Government Affairs is to direct public policy studies that support national and Chapter advocacy priorities.

82nd Legislative Session
The Texas Legislative Session begins on January 11, 2011 and concludes on May 30, 2011. March of Dimes State Public Affairs Committee, led by Chairwoman Dr. Charleta Guillory of Houston and Vice-Chair Tom Watkins of Austin, has outlined an agenda to help improve and protect the health of all babies in Texas. The Committee will be working to protect funding for several key public health programs like newborn screening and the Texas Birth Defects Registry, and will support other initiatives related to maternal and child health.
March of Dimes Public Affairs agenda focuses on public policies and programs related to the Foundation’s mission – improving the health of infants and children by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality – and on issues that pertain to tax-exempt organizations.
