Chapter Partners with Excellus on Prematurity
Who?
Excellus, headquartered in Rochester, NY, is a $4 billion not-for-profit company that finances and delivers health care in Upstate New York and provides long-term-care insurance across the nation.  There are five divisions:
  • Univera Healthcare in Western New York
  • Excellus BlueCross BlueShield - Rochester Region
  • Excellus BlueCross BlueShield - Central New York Region
  • Excellus BlueCross BlueShield - Utica Region
  • Excellus BlueCross BlueShield - Southern Tier Region

The partnership’s three main components and the support staff include Program, Communications, and Revenue.

What?
We have embarked on a two-year Prematurity Initiatives Partnership that consists of significant contributions.  Excellus has also committed several staff members to chair the main components of the initiative.  The partnership will help lay the groundwork for the Prematurity Campaign by raising public awareness through media exposure and provide funding for targeted public and professional education programs.  The in-kind will most likely take the form of printing of collateral materials, such as the WalkAmerica Team Captain Handbook, the Walker Info Guide and the Prematurity Brochures.

Where?
Excellus’ target markets mirror the March of Dimes’ major media markets.  Some specific areas include Buffalo, Rochester Syracuse, Watertown, Utica, Elmira, Binghamton, Oneonta and Plattsburgh.

When?
The partnership begins in January 2003 and will run until December 2004.  All mission messages about Prematurity will be driven by the partnership, through all events in the Chapter.  Prematurity tools will become available toward the end of 2002, but will be “embargoed” until January 2003 (FDR’s Birthday) as the campaign will be kicked off at the National Press Club in Washington D.C.

How?
Excellus will partner with the March of Dimes to negotiate media partnerships across the market areas to help promote the campaign as well as WalkAmerica.  Dr. Steven Goldberg, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (Southern Tier) for Excellus, will chair the Prematurity Campaign Committee.  In addition, the company will provide support in delivering community programs to help educate targeted populations throughout the Chapter area.  The Revenue component of this partnership will be supported through new WalkAmerica teams in Western New York, Central New York and Northeastern New York.

An Overview of the Benefits for the Chapter:
