Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont Named “Vermont Champion for Babies 2009”
Vermont State Director Roger Clapp awarded Blue Cross Blue Shield president Don George the 2009 Champion for Babies award for their Better Beginnings program that has achieved 80% participation among BCBS-VT members and reduced prematurity rates to 6.5%.
In 2008, Vermont earned the best score on the March of Dimes Preterm Birth Report Card for having the lowest rate of babies born premature. The March of Dimes has the lead the way with our Research Grants, Educational Programs and Advocacy Initiatives.
Vermont is Shown as Leader in 2009 March of Dimes Report on New Born Screening
As a result of the advocacy of the March of Dimes, the Vermont Department of Health Newborn Screening Program and its Advisory Committee, and parents, in 2008, Vermont added cystic fibrosis to the New Born Screening Panel.
Emma Phalen, an eleven year old from Jericho, Vermont has been selected as the 2009 March for Babies Ambassador for her leadership, creativity and committment to the health of all babies.
