Vermont's 2009 Checklist for Success!
Vermont has earned the best score in the nation on the March of Dimes Prematurity Report Card. Vermont has the lowest rate of babies born premature than any other state. This year we have nearly $1 million dollars invested in Vermont enabling the March of Dimes to lead the way with the following programs:

* Prematurity Research Initiative Grant – Funding the UVM College of Medicine with $800,000  to research ways to prevent prematurity.

* NICU Family Support – Providing direct support and resources to families with a baby in the NICU.

* Prematurity Awareness – Since 2006, distributed over 3000 baby outfits to Vermont families with an infant in the NICU.

* Community Grants - Since 2000, provided $320,000 to Vermont community organizations to improve the health of babies.

* Professional Education – Delivered statewide conference to health professionals on the Prevention and Management of Prematurity

* Improving Prenatal Care in Vermont - Funded a $300,000 grant to develop tools and resources for all Vermont providers to improve their care of pregnant women.

* Smoking During Pregnancy – Successfully advocated for funding smoking cessation programs targeting pregnant smokers in Vermont.

* Access to Healthcare – Successfully protected access to health care by opposing increases in Dr. Dynasaur premiums and ensuring coverage for pregnant women under the State’s Catamount program.

*Newborn Screening – Successfully advocated for a complete list of the Vermont New Born Screening Panel.
