| The March of Dimes Vermont Chapter is committed to improving the health of babies. In 2008, we have made a contribution of nearly $1 million dollars to fund programs in education, community services, research and advocacy. We are proud of the following programs in Vermont:
* Prematurity Research Initiative Grant – Funding the UVM College of Medicine with nearly $800,000 to research ways to prevent prematurity.
* NICU Family Support – Providing direct support and resources to families with a baby in the NICU.
* Professional Educatoin - Sponsoring a Prematurity Conference for nurses and physicians to access the latest information and resources to prevent, treat and manage premature labor. Other topis will incude supporting the families of premature babies and breastfeeding the preterm infant.
* Prematurity Awareness – Collected over 1000 baby outfits to give to Vermont area families with an infant in the NICU.
* Community Grants - Since 2000, provided $300,000 to Vermont community organizations to improve the health of babies.
* Improving Prenatal Care in Vermont - Funded a $300,000 grant to develop tools and resources for all Vermont providers to improve their care of pregnant women.
* Smoking During Pregnancy – Successfully advocated for funding smoking cessation programs targeting pregnant smokers in Vermont.
* Access to Healthcare – Successfully protected access to health care by opposing increases in Dr. Dynasaur premiums and ensuring coverage for pregnant women under the State’s Catamount Insurance program.
* Newborn Screening – Successfully advocated for a complete list of the Vermont New Born Screening Panel.
