Formerly known as Virginia Capital Area
1984 – Divisions are called Chapters

Greater Hampton Roads or Tidewater – John McClung , Executive Director Greater Blue Ridge - Zaida Swedberg, Executive Director Danville - Louise Dalton, Executive Director Shenandoah Valley Chapter – Sara Milan, Executive Director
1994 – Reorganized to Greater Blue Ridge, Danville, Richmond, Shenandoah Valley and Piedmont Divisions; Virginia Capital Area becomes Virginia Chapter. When merging 5 chapters to become state chapter, the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Organizational Structures and the Greater Chicago Development Plans were used as guidelines.
2001 – Piedmont and Shenandoah Valley merged to become Piedmont-Shenandoah Valley Division. Christine Bilbrey, division director
2006 - Chiefly due of March of Dimes lobbying efforts, the Commonwealth of Virginia becomes one of the first 5 states in the country to require full panel newborn screening of 29 tests.
2007 - Virginia's first NICU Family Support Program opens at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Henrico, VA
2009 - On March 9, 2009, Governor Kaine joined by health advocates, legislative patrons, and other stake holders – including representatives from the Virginia Chapter of the March of Dimes – signed legislation from the 2009 General Assembly session that banned smoking in restaurants throughout the Commonwealth.
2009 - On May 13, 2009, the state's second NICU Family Support Program was launched at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, becoming the first military hospital to partner with the MOD in such an effort, both stateside and abroad. |
