Newborn Screening in Virginia
09-Jun-09
Did you know that Virginia was one of the first five states in the USA to require full-panel newborn screening? As of March 2006, every baby born in the Commonwealth of Virginia is screened for 29 disorders, all of which - when diagnosed early - can be successfully managed or treated to prevent severe consequences.

"For infants affected with these conditions, says Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of the March of Dimes, "the tests can mean the difference between life and death, or health and lifelong disability."
