| The March of Dimes Virginia NICU Family Support® provides information and comfort to families during the NICU hospitalization of their newborn, transition into home-life, and in the event of a newborn death. Additionally, the Virginia NICU Family Support® contributes to the professional development of NICU staff while promoting a philosophy of family-centered care.

In our ongoing efforts to improve the health of babies, the March of Dimes Virginia Chapter NICU Family Support® was developed. We launched the support program in 2007 at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Henrico, Va.
At HDH Women's Pavilion, the Virginia NICU Family Support® complements services already provided such as the Progressive Care Unit, the comprehensive Family Plan which features customized classes, and the Baby Friendly Initiative which requires all nurses to take Lactation Education courses.

In May, 2009, a second March of Dimes Virginia Chapter NICU Family Support® program was launched at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, the first of its kind in a military hospital, either stateside or abroad.
