Lisa E. Roday, has recently been named as the March of Dimes NICU family support coordinator at Henrico Doctors Hospital. Roday will work with a team of trained volunteers and the Henrico medical staff to offer comfort to families who have a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
In November, the March of Dimes and Henrico Doctor’s Hospital partnered to provide the NICU Family Support Project to provide information and comfort to families of premature and other critically ill newborns. Henrico Doctor’s is the only hospital in Central Virginia and one of few in the nation to offer the March of Dimes family support program.
Roday received her BA at State University of New York at Binghamton, and her law degree from Brooklyn Law School. She practiced law in New York for several years before moving to Virginia. Roday, a Richmond resident, is active in her synagogue and her children’s school. Lisa and her husband have two sons, both born preterm.
Following the birth of her second son, Roday spent two years as a support mentor for women confined to bed with pregnancy complications.
Prematurity is the leading cause of newborn death and for survivors, a major cause of health problems. It is estimated that 10% of all newborns require intensive care because they are born too soon, too small or with a birth defect. There are about 222 babies born premature each week in Virginia.
“Lisa exudes a passion when talking about the NICU Family Support Project, and we feel confident she will play a critical in making the project at Henrico Doctors Hospital a great and comforting success,” said Sara Long, March of Dimes state program director.
