12-Month Pregnancy Program for educators
Can pregnancy be 12 months long? Yes, if you include planning as a necessary component, sort of a trimester of its own.
That's the point behind the March of Dimes 12-Month Pregnancy Program, an online curriculum tool for family and consumer sciences teachers. The program refers to the idea that to have a healthy mom, a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby, forethought is key. Ideally, every pregnancy would include at least three months of preparation followed by nine full months of gestation. If young people learn this today, perhaps in the future we will have more healthy moms and more healthy babies.
The articles, activities, videos and citations offered through the 12-Month Pregnancy are intended to provide Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) teachers with tools that are consistent with national standards and competencies, as well as FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) skill development. These tools provide the most current information about pregnancy in an ever-changing world of trends, discoveries and interventions.
Our curriculum meets FACS national standards and contributes to meeting the educational standards of analyzing physical and emotional factors related to beginning the parenting process, and the principles of human growth and development through adolescence.
