Spokane WalkAmerica 2005
Gonzaga University Soccer Field

The Spokane WalkAmerica is just around the corner!  When you raise funds for WalkAmerica, you'll be helping the March of Dimes save babies from birth defects and premature birth.  Here are just a few of the ways your dollars are spent to help babies in the Inland Northwest:

Community Grants

  • $20,000 to provide culturally and linguistically relevant prenatal education, support and guidance to refugee and immigrant women.
  • $13,500 to increase participation and fund in-home support servcies for women experiencing preterm labor.
  • Thousands of dollars worth of donations in car seats, clothing, diapers and vitamins to low income families.

Education

  • Birth defects prevention training programs for use in local health classes.
  • Continuing education programs for health professionals
  • Health education materials distributed locally

Advocacy

Successfully lobbied for the addition of six newborn screening tests, ensuring that babies born with treatable disorders and hearing loss are screened and treated early.
