Recognizing Excellence: March of Dimes Seeks 2007 Nurse of the Year Nominations

SEATTLE, Washington, Aug. 23, 2007) – In emergency rooms, examining rooms, operating rooms and classrooms throughout western Washington, nurses use their clinical and people skills every day to profoundly touch the lives of patients, families and future care givers.

 In recognition of nurses whose extraordinary efforts stand out, the March of Dimes Washington Chapter is proud to announce its fifth annual Nurse of the Year Awards honoring western Washington’s nurses. Chair of the event is Gail Larson, CEO of Providence Everett Medical Center, and the event’s Presenting Sponsor is Premera Blue Cross.

If you have been touched by the work and caring of an exceptional nurse, you may nominate that nurse by completing a nomination form that can be found online at www.marchofdimes.com/washington, or obtained by calling 206-624-1373. Nominations are being accepted through Oct. 17

RNs working at all staff levels in Western Washington, in good standing with the Washington State Nursing Commission and residents of Western Washington for at least one year are eligible to be nominated.

Keynote speaker for the event will be state Sen. Margarita Prentice, the winner of the 2006 Legend of Nursing Award. Sen. Prentice was recognized for her leadership in improving the work life of nurses and for her work as a role model and strong voice for patients, healthcare, and nurses.

 KING 5 News Anchor and HealthLink reporter Jean Enersen will emcee.

 Last year’s Nurse of the Year honorees were recognized for wide ranging contributions to nursing, including helping nurses in the developing world better treat critically ill infants, creating programs to improve end-of-life care, helping children suffering from birth defects and autism better live with their disabilities, and improving care for HIV-positive teens and adults.

Proceeds from the event will benefit March of Dimes maternal and child health programs. Individual tickets, tables, and sponsorships are available through the March of Dimes at (206) 624-1373. Individual tickets for the event are $40. Table sponsorships are $1,000.

Gold Sponsors are UnitedHealthcare, Providence Everett Medical Center and Swedish Medical Center. Silver Sponsor is Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center. Other sponsors are Overlake Hospital Medical Center, Molina Healthcare, Group Health Cooperative, Providence St. Peter Hospital,  Franciscan Health System, The Everett Clinic and Virginia Mason Medical Center.
