WEST VIRGINIA MARCH OF DIMES WINS TWO PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS

CHARLESTON, WV, AUGUST 4, 2008 - The West Virginia Chapter was recently
awarded two prestigious Chapter of the Year Awards at the National March of Dimes Staff Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. These are awarded to those chapters who best meet the criteria established by the March of Dimes national office to recognize their
outstanding achievement.
“We want to thank the fantastic volunteers and staff for their outstanding contributions to these efforts,” said Chuck Jones, WV March of Dimes Board Chair. “And we’d like to welcome new volunteers who would like to join us in our vision for a day when all babies
are born healthy!”
West Virginia was awarded the Chapter of the Year for Mission Triangle, an honor based on outstanding achievement in Fund Raising, Program Services, Public Affairs and Communication. This award is based on nominations achieved in all categories. West
Virginia had a very productive year.

According to State Director Mindy Smith, revenue grew 17%. The chapter integrated mission into all chapter functions and launched a
NICU Family Support Project at Charleston Area Medical Center Women and Children’s Hospital.
West Virginia March of Dimes was also the winner of the Public Affairs Award. In order to win this award, a chapter must demonstrate outstanding achievement in developing well planned, volunteer public affairs activities. 2007 was a banner year for newborn
screening efforts in West Virginia. The chapter secured expansion of screenings from seven conditions to 29. The gradual implementation of these screens is underway.
