The March of Dimes is a leader and pioneer in the fight to save babies. We have an outstanding track record of success and we are prepared to accomplish even greater things in the future to solve the problems of prematurity, birth defects, and low birthweight.

Since its beginning, the March of Dimes has depended on the generosity of people like you to carry out its mission of saving babies. Volunteers are the driving force behind the foundation, giving generously of their time and talent to serve in a variety of ways.

Here are just a few ways you can get involved:

Volunteer for Signature Chefs Auction.

Funds raised by March for Babies helps in West Virginia

Helping Moms
Gabriel Project of the Northern Panhandle was awarded a March of Dimes Community Grant to fund a Parenting Education Project. The Love and Logic model will be presented to parents in a seven week series. Facilitators will train groups of facilitators in the northern and southern part of the state, so that parents statewide may benefit from this instruction.

Helping babies
March of Dimes volunteers advocate for public policies and programs that help to improve the health of infants and children by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. March of Dimes volunteers successfully advocated for the expansion of the newborn screening panel to 29 tests for treatable conditions. These screenings were fully implemented by the end of Spring 2009.

Helping Families
NICU Family Support Project at CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital provides information and comfort to families coping with the NICU hospitalization of their newborn. A March of Dimes NICU Family Support Specialist works with NICU families and staff to provide education and support within the NICU setting.

Providing Education
March of Dimes Prematurity Summit, “Understanding Substance Abuse Issues in Pregnant Women and Newborns” was co-sponsored with CAMC Institute and attended by over 150 health care professionals from all over the state.
Educational materials, including the Signs of Preterm Labor, were distributed to obstetrical providers in West Virginia, through a partnership with the Right From the Start Project.
“Healthy Babies Healthy Business”, a March of Dimes educational program available to businesses was presented at the Governor’s Conference for Worksite Wellness. This program, available for companies to use, free of charge on their intranet sites, provides up-to-date preconception and pregnancy information for employees.
