Wisconsin Capitol Shines in Pink and Blue to Promote Prematurity Awareness
15-Nov-05 |
The Wisconsin State Capitol was lit up in pink and blue on Prematurity Awareness Day, Tuesday, November 15th in honor of all Wisconsin babies born too soon. The March of Dimes coordinated the lighting to raise awareness of prematurity, the number one cause of newborn death. Funding for the lighting was provided by Famous Footwear, a March of Dimes national corporate partner. One in every eight babies is born premature -- almost a half million babies a year. In the last two decades, the rate of prematurity has increased by more than 30%. Nobody knows why prematurity is on the rise, but nobody is working harder than the March of Dimes to find out.
