The March of Dimes Wisconsin Chapter funds programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. This includes providing financial support to research and education that will help moms before and during their pregnancies. It also includes working with local medical groups and organizations to improve prenatal care and newborn screening.
Chapter grants are in the form of mission investments based on partnering with organizations selected to participate in these projects. In 2013, the Wisconsin Chapter Statewide Program Services Committee determined key mission investments in 2013 would be in CenteringPregnancy™ an evidence-based group model care developed by Centering Healthcare Institute; implementing community programs that aim to promote equity in birth outcomes, which may include March of Dimes programs like Stork’s Nest® incentive program for at-risk women of childbearing age; and quality improvement programs that work towards ensuring that all babies are born healthy, such as the Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait® community and clinician education campaign to eliminate elective deliveries before 39 weeks.
Within the Strategic Mission Investment (SMI) model selected providers and organizations will be those that can demonstrate their ability to further these initiatives and the overall goals of improving birth outcomes, increasing prenatal care utilization, and improving the quality of prenatal education for pregnant women in Wisconsin.
