The purpose of the program is to educate physicians, hospitals, health insurance partners, public health leaders, associations such as the Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care and the Wisconsin Hospital Association, and other key partners on this critical quality improvement program aimed at reducing elective (non-medically indicated) deliveries before 39 weeks gestation. The "Less than 39 Weeks Toolkit" will be distributed and an OB/GYN Volunteer of the WI Chapter of the March of Dimes will champion the cause and provide critical hospital follow up once the toolkit is provided. As hospitals contact the national March of Dimes, Wisconsin Chapter will receive listing of the hospital requesting, leading to a follow up call from a March of Dimes physician volunteer to move this program forward.
The March of Dimes will ensure that from 1-5 hospitals in the State adopt and are successfully tracking birth outcomes through the 39 week toolkit, reducing elective deliveries before the 39th week of gestation. As a result, fewer babies will be born too soon.
