Thank you to the more than 400 people who nominated outstanding nurses for the 2013 Nurse of the Year awards. The nomination and application period is now closed. Nurse of the Year winners will be announced at a gala dinner October 26 at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.
At the Nurse of the Year awards March of Dimes recognizes an array of nursing categories and engages the medical community across the spectrum while raising funds in support of the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies. Nurses will be honored at a Patients, friends, co-workers and other health professionals nominate nurses in 15 categories including the Distinguished Nurse of the Year. Other categories include:

In order to be considered for the award, nominees must fill out an application. Applications are blinded and scored based on credentials, certifications and nursing education, their proudest outcomes, leadership, professional associations and achievements. Blinded applications are scored and reviewed by the volunteer Nurse of the Year Committee.
Individuals may choose to nominate more than one person or nominate the same person in more than one category. This will be particularly helpful if the nominee fits a specialized category and may also be a candidate for the Distinguished Nurse of the Year.
In 2012, category winners and attendees at the ceremony were inspired by the videotaped story of two nurses who have developed a lifelong bond. March of Dimes thanks Fairview Health Services and the 2013 Nurse of the Year Committee Chair Cheryl Douglas for producing this video.
