Meet our 2012 Ambassador, Kolzen Orshowski
Kolzen was born at 30 ½ weeks due to bilateral post urethra valves causing kidney insufficiency and bladder retention. He weighed only 4 ½ pounds. At three days old, he underwent surgery to rid the valves not working to help his kidney and bladder function.
During Kolzen’s 2 months in the NICU, he was on the ventilator, and discovered he had three holes in heart, and had a blood transfusion.
After 2 months home he came down with RSV (a respiratory infection) and spent 1 week in the PICU. When he was 2 years old he underwent another surgery to help improve the reflux into his kidneys and bladder. He was in St. Vincent’s Children’s Hospital (Toledo, Ohio) for 2 weeks.
After discharge from the hospital at age 2 and his second surgery, Kolzen suffered from slow weight gain. A PEG tube (feeding tube) was inserted to help him gain weight and grow. The PEG tube was removed at age 5, the end of his Kindergarten year. Thankfully he did not suffer from any developmental delay!
Kolzen is a very happy-go-lucky 3rd grader at Perkins Schools. He enjoys golf and basketball. His smile lights up a room. He is a blessing and miracle baby!
