Nathan and Ashley Egbert’s Little Wonders
The Egbert family’s journey with the March of Dimes began in the early morning hours of April 9th, 2007. Ashley, who was 23 weeks pregnant with twin girls, began having symptoms of preterm labor which rapidly evolved into full labor. Only twelve hours after arriving at the hospital, their precious twin daughters Addison Jane and Ella Kathleen were born. At only 23 weeks gestation, they each weighed just over 1 lb. and fit into the palm of their parents hands. Addison and Ella survived only a few short hours before returning to heaven while lying in their parents arms. Nathan and Ashley left the hospital brokenhearted with empty arms.
Five months after the passing of their daughters, Ashley became pregnant and a new journey began. This time, Ashley was given weekly progesterone shots throughout the pregnancy in order to prevent preterm labor, a treatment that was researched and developed with the help of funding provided by the March of Dimes. At 39 weeks, Ashley gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Connor. Two years later the Egbert’s welcomed their fourth child into the world, Isabella. Through the work of the March of Dimes, Connor and Isabella are alive and healthy today.
Following the loss of Addison and Ella, the Egbert family wanted to find hope in their time of sorrow; this hope came in the form of the March of Dimes. Ashley and Nathan formed their March for Babies team “Our Little Wonders” in 2008 and participated in their first walk in April 2008 when Ashley was pregnant with Connor. Their hope was that their participation in the March for Babies would keep the memory alive of their precious twin girls. To this day, the memory of their short lives remains strong in the hearts of Ashley and Nathan and their families. It is their wish that telling the story of their “Little Wonders” will bring comfort, courage and hope to others.
