    2012 Ambassadors: The Mack Family

Bryson was born three months premature and weighed only 1 pound, 15.8 ounces. He was so small that his father’s wedding band fit on his wrist like a bracelet. He spent 77 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Bryson was born with Respiratory Distress Syndrome due to being born so early. He spent 15 days on a ventilator. Due to the research and development of the March of Dimes, Bryson received Surfactant Treatments which allowed him to finally breathe on his own. Without this treatment, he probably would not have survived. About a week after he was born, he suffered a “brain bleed” which is very similar to what an adult would call a stroke. Because of this, he will have some developmental delays. He has physical, occupational and speech therapy every week. The knowledge of the doctors and nurses was incredible. Had it not been for those doctors, nurses and the March of Dimes, Bryson would not be with us today.

Bryson continues to light up our hearts every day and is truly a miracle.
