Wes & Kelly Cody - a proud US NAVY FAMILY
Now, here is OUR STORY:
U.S. Navy EOD1 Wes Cody and wife Kelly thought they had months to get ready for the arrival of their twins. But at 28 weeks there were complications. The lives of Kelly and the babies were endangered. To make matters worse, Wes was deployed.
Before Kelly’s emergency surgery, doctors warned of the slim chances of survival for babies born 12 weeks early. If her babies did survive, they were at high risk for developmental delays, learning disabilities, vision problems and a long list of other health concerns.
Cade James, born at 2 lbs. 6 oz., was resuscitated and rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Kelly, who did not get to see her son, had one brief glance at Avery Ann, who weighed 3 lbs. and 2 oz., before the tiny girl joined her brother in the NICU.
The next months were filled with blood transfusions, feeding tubes, ventilators, dropped heart rates and countless machine alarms. At 3 months, Avery and Cade, equipped with monitors and oxygen came home.
Today, Kelly and Wes celebrate the noise, giggles, tears and havoc of healthy, active 3-year olds.
“Our babies are here because of the life-saving work of the March of Dimes,” said Wes. “Please give generously so that other families will not have to make this journey. Every baby deserves to be born healthy.”
